Under Construction: Overcoming Anxiety
It is natural to have concerns over things we can’t control. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).
Common anxiety signs and symptoms include:
- Feeling nervous
- Feeling helpless
- A sense of impending panic, danger or doom
- Increased heart rate
- Hyperventilation
- Sweating
- Trembling
- Obsessively thinking about the panic trigger
Remember to pray for God’s help and strength:
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
”Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
And consider these tips:
- Keep physically active.
- Use stress management and relaxation techniques.
- Eat healthy foods.
- Make sleep a priority.
- Learn about your disorder.
- Identify triggers.
For severe anxiety, seek psychotherapy.
